The Best Projects' Safety competition, now in its second year, drew a diverse mix of contenders from the tristate region but it was one project in particular that our judges deemed particularly worthy of the top prize. This project, the New York State Capitol Building Restoration, Contract C, stood out for its pro-active safety management system, the judges said in naming it the region's 2013 Safety Award winner.
Submitted by the project's prime general contractor, Consigli Construction, the project involved the fourth and final phase of the 114-year-old, five-story building's restoration including repairs to the oldest and most deteriorated sections. Our judges said that the project had "great multiple and significant risk exposures" but that the team used design, pre-planning and an approach to safety that "wasn't compliance driven; it was risk driven."
More details on this winning submission, as well as the other Best Projects winners and the overall 2013 Best Project of the year winner will be highlighted in ENR New York's Nov. 11 issue. All of the winners will also be honored at our special Nov. 6 breakfast, to be held at our New York headquarters at 1221 Avenue of the Americas.

See below for the nearly complete list of all the winners by category. The only thing missing from the list is—the Best Project of the Year for this region. We've provided the top-four contenders for that title at the bottom of the list but to find out which project and team will take home that prize, you'll have to wait till November!
