ENR New York has named Langan as its 2023 Design Firm of the Year, to be recognized in the May print issue for demonstrating success in the region from a growth and revenue standpoint as well as for innovation, creativity and a commitment to giving back to its community.
Since its founding in 1970, Langan has worked on numerous projects across New York City, providing multidisciplinary design services on what the firm says are a number of its defining projects, ranging from high-rise residential towers to large-scale urban redevelopments.
Langan says 2022 was its “best year yet” and it attributes its success to “Its technically excellent, diverse workforce led by an experienced, intelligent, and engaged leadership team.”
The firm recently expanded services in digital solutions, environmental, social and corporate governance consulting and renewable energy practices in the New York metropolitan area and across the country.
Langan is committed to helping communities where employees live and work through various citizenship and sustainability efforts. The firm encourages staff to donate their time, skills, and knowledge. Langan saya it partners with more than 130 non-profit and charitable organizations to support initiatives focused on community development, medical research, economic opportunity, humanitarian aid, education, and the advancement of our industry. The firm set an internal goal of donating between $500,000 and $1 million to local charities each year, while consistently providing in-person volunteer hours across the country.
On last year’s ENR New York Top Design Firm ranking, Langan was No. 5 with $188 million in regional revenue. The previous year the firm was No. 9 with $175 million in regional revenue. John F. Kennedy International Airport, Jamaica, New York
Langan has over 40 years of experience at JFK International Airport through ongoing partnerships with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, airline tenants and design-build developers. The firm says it has supported more than 100 projects across the 4,930-acre airport, providing services to help transform the international hub into a 21st-century global gateway and introduce the future of flight. Its project experience includes massive redevelopments of terminals and hotels, construction of cargo and fuel storage facilities, environmental work related to in-situ remediation and wetland delineations.
Gowanus Canal, Brooklyn, New York
Once a major industrial transportation route, the 1.8-mile-long Gowanus Canal is undergoing a massive revitalization spearheaded by the New York State Brownfield Cleanup Program. Langan has been at the forefront of this effort, guiding several clients through, and, as a result, helping bring new life to this once-maligned New York City waterfront. Langan has worked on nearly 30 project sites surrounding the canal, providing an integrated mix of services including waterfront, environmental, geotechnical, and site/civil engineering; GIS/digital solutions; survey; natural resources; demolition/abatement; due diligence; and permitting.
