Dallas-based Primoris Services Corp. sailed easily to the #1 spot on ENR Texas & Louisiana's Top Specialty Contractors ranking last year, with 2022 regional revenue of nearly $2.3 billion—spread across the power/energy, industrial/petroleum, transportation and telecommunications sectors—putting the firm notably ahead of other top regional firms.
While this was the first time that Primoris had participated in the Texas & Louisiana ranking, the company has been ranked among the top 10 for several years in ENR's national Top 600 Specialty Contractors ranking. Its position on the upcoming ENR Texas & Louisiana Top Specialty Contractors ranking—to publish in the Sept. 30 print edition—is yet to be determined, but based on its announcement earlier this year of overall 2023 revenue totaling $5.7 billion—a 29% jump from the year prior—Primoris could likely land at the top again.
The company also announced $1.1 billion in new contracts, including $700 million worth of solar projects and a battery energy storage contract of $350 million. In May, Primoris deployed "hundreds" of company line installers as part of the response to restore power in the Temple, Texas, area after tornados left "dozens of towers spanning several miles in need of repair," a company spokesperson noted. At the same time, its crews worked to restore power in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Critically, the company—with more than 6,700 employees—puts a strong focus on its staff. "Our philosophy has always been that we invest in our people," Tom McCormick, president and CEO, told ENR in 2023.
"Skilled labor shortages continue to be a topic of conversation across the industry and have been for many years, even prior to the challenges of the last few years," he added. "How we contend with this is to show and not tell—we show our commitment by investing in workforce training, skill building and apprenticeship programs. We create a strong company culture where diverse voices and new perspectives are valued through initiatives such as employee resource groups and industry-leading benefits."
ENR Texas & Louisiana will provide more details on Primoris Services in a profile in the Sept. 30 print edition.
An important note—ENR Texas & Louisiana's 2024 Top Specialty Contractors survey, which is free and can be found here, remains open until Aug. 5. We encourage firms to participate!
