As expected, revenue was lower for most firms in this year’s Top Design Firms ranking in the October issue of Southwest Contractor here. I’ve compiled additional statistics on specific market sectors, including water supply, renovation and retail. I've also included revenue totals for different disciplines, such as structural engineers, architects and MEP engineers. The revenue tallies work performed in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.
Most market sectors were down year over year, but there were some exceptions. Education, energy and correctional institutions all saw gains in design work from the previous year.
Perhaps most surprisingly, manufacturing design work saw a more than 160% jump this year. Interestingly, a report today from the Institute for Supply Management found that the manufacturing sector as a whole grew nationwide for the third consecutive month in October, and the rate of growth is the highest seen since April 2006.
