As the biggest and most influential institution of higher learning in the Phoenix metro area, Arizona State University is integral to the area’s built environment. More than just being the biggest on the block, thanks to innovative and progressive policies, the university is also pushing the boundaries of higher education in a push to be the “New American University,” which also translates into substantial growth needing innovative structures. University typically honored via ENR Southwest Best Projects each year. Besides the structures, the university has also made inroads into alternative delivery methods, including design build, as well as public-private-partnerships on many of its student housing facilities. The university perennially has projects among the Top 25 starts including Greek Leadership Village on this year’s list. Major projects under construction include Sun Devil Stadium and Biodesign C. Projects in excess of $100 that will break ground in 2018 include Wells Fargo arena and a multi-sport facility as well as another science building adjacent to Biodesign C. In addition, as an owner, the university oversees numerous smaller improvement projects every year.
