Earlier this month, I visited the Cape Canaveral Next Generation Clean Energy Center project, in Cape Canaveral, Fla., where the folks with Florida Power & Light provided an interesting and informative tour of the site.

The $1.3-billion project--which ranked first on last year's Top Starts ranking--is heading for final completion by this June. When complete, the natural gas-fired plant will be able to produce approximately 1,250 megawatts of electricity.

But before construction began, FPL first enlisted the help of noted implosion contractor Controlled Demolition Inc., of Phoenix, Md., to take down the existing plant. ENR Southeast will be reporting on this project in further detail soon.

But as an intro, here are a couple of Youtube videos of the implosion. The first was posted by CDI, and contains multiple views of the takedown. The second is FPL's video, which includes comments from FPL officials about the benefits of the project.

Happy viewing!
