After a review of numerous nominations submitted by this year’s specialty contractor survey participants, a vote by ENR editors has determined Wilson, N.C.-based SPC Mechanical as ENR Southeast's 2020 Specialty Contractor of the Year. The family-owned mechanical contracting company, founded in 1965, reported strong revenue growth during 2019, which was among the factors in the firm’s selection for this honor.
For 2019, SPC—which performs mechanical and plumbing work for health care, commercial, governmental and other building projects—reported a 31% jump in revenue over 2018, earning a total of roughly $113 million in revenue, all from work performed in the state of North Carolina. According to the company, that revenue growth is maintaining its strong pace into 2020, with the firm projecting $149 million in Southeast revenue for the current year, which would make for an approximately 32% gain over 2019.
A driving factor for SPC’s revenue growth is its recent expansion into the Charlotte, N.C., market, where the company says it has already built up a $65-million backlog in local projects, including work at the Charlotte Convention Center and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
ENR Southeast will highlight these and other achievements in its upcoming Aug. 31/Sept. 7 print edition. In the meantime, here’s a quick video produced by SPC describing the firm’s philosophy towards safety.
