ENR New England has named VHB as its 2024 regional Design Firm of the Year. It will be featured in the May issue of the publication and on line along with regional Top Design Firm rankings—including firms from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont.
VHB will also be cited at the ENR New England Regional Best Projects Awards later this year.
Headquartered in Watertown, Mass, VHB has 13 offices in New England, with a total of 30-plus across that region, New York and New Jersey, the MidAtlantic and Southeast. The attributes its regional revenue growth in part to increased federal funding for infrastructure projects but says its "special sauce is truly its deep client relationships, and awareness and positioning in New England across all of our markets."
VHB says "these differentiators have allowed the firm to capitalize on opportunities and move fast when the funding pieces fall into place."
The firm started hiring experts with an eye toward alternative delivery years in advance so that when current design-build opportunities such as the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements came up for bid, it was ready. The nearly $400-million design-build project is one of Massachusetts’ largest and most complex transportation projects since the Big Dig.
VHB is teamed with contractors Barletta Heavy Division Inc., O&G and Aetna Bridge Co.
Currently, VHB focuses on the clean energy transition and how it can support clients through the full transition lifecycle. The firm recently launched its Energy Evolution Practice.
VHB ranked No. 2 with $191.22 million in revenue on last year's ENR New England Design Firm list. The previous year, the firm was No. 3 with $161 million in regional revenue.
