ENR Mountain States is busy finalizing the rankings for our annual top general contractors of 2013. These lists are based on 2012 revenues for work on projects located in the Mountain States region (Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho), as reported to us by the firms themselves. Early results show that 2012 revenues for the region’s contractors remained steady from 2011, but dipped sharply in some areas, such as institutional construction and public works.
Firms that were fortunate enough to have landed large public infrastructure contracts, such as those connected with regional mass transit or federal facilities, reported a solid year, with revenues for the top firms on the Intermountain side surging ahead of Colorado contractors.
The following are the current contenders for the top 20 positions in this year’s GC rankings in Colorado and Wyoming, presented in no special order: Hensel Phelps, Golden Triangle Construction, Mortenson, Kiewit, Interstate Highway Construction, Alliance Construction Solutions, Haselden, GH Phipps, Turner, Garney Cos., Adolfson & Peterson, GE Johnson, Ames, Shaw, Balfour Beatty. PCL, Catamount Constructors, Saunders, FCI Constructors and JE Dunn.
The top 20 (non-ranked) firms in the Intermountain area for 2013 include: Apollo, Alder Construction, Big-D, Okland, Sletten, Whitaker, Staker Parson, DPR, Bodell, Westland, Jacobsen, Balfour Beatty U.S., Hughes General Contractors, Wadman, Ralph L. Wadsworth, Layton, Engineered Structures, Hogan & Associates, Ames and Kiewit.
Remember, these firms are presented here in random order. These contractors are the most likely of those in the region who submitted revenue totals to make our final top 20 cut, but this list is not yet final. The ranked lists will appear in the August issue of ENR Mountain States magazine.
After further research is complete, we will announce our contractor of the year for the region soon, so stay tuned.
