Toronto-based Rick Huijbregts is Stantec's Global Lead for Smart Cities, where he works to advance Stantec's smart city offerings by uniting the company's subject matter experts across multiple markets, including Buildings, Power, Water, Community, and Transportation. Prior to joining Stantec, he was VP for Strategy & Innovation at George Brown College (GBC) in Toronto, a post that was preceded by more than a decade at Cisco in various leadership roles, including VP of Digital Transformation and Innovation, Head of Smart Cities in Canada, and member of Cisco’s global Smart Cities team. Beyond Stantec, he maintains strong industry connections as a faculty member at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design Executive Education, Senior Scholar at George Brown College’s Center for Construction and Engineering Technologies, and Executive-in-Residence at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) for its Smart Cities Ventures Zone.
