Sited adjacent to an 1872 courthouse, the Livingston County Law & Justice Center provides Pontiac, Ill., with updated courtroom and judiciary space while meeting an objective to redevelop underutilized parts of its downtown.
Older buildings were demolished to make way for the structure. Despite an environmental assessment, crews uncovered underground tanks during excavation, prompting workers to isolate and treat impacted soil while simultaneously proceeding with footings and foundation work.
A subsurface water table discovered during installation of elevator shafts required crews to install sleeves in shaft holes, then grout space between shafts and adjacent bedrock before locating grout caps at shaft surfaces.
