The $75-million Florida Marlins Park Parking Garages project consists of four tilt-up precast concrete parking garages as well as six surface lots—along with retail space—for a total of 1.9 million sq ft.
To increase the impact of the project on the surrounding Little Havana neighborhood, the City of Miami instituted a goal of 15% for local participation. By using various methods of community outreach efforts, including working with local work-force-oriented organizations, Suffolk was able to achieve a participation rate of 30%. Also, by using second and third shifts to avoid overtime, and through a value-engineering program involving the general contractor, designer and owner, the project ended 10% under budget.
