The St. Regis is a 2.1-million-gross-sq-ft resort development consisting of three 27-story residential towers with more than 500 units. But one of the project's biggest challenges was the 270,000-sq-ft subterranean garage, which is positioned below the water table. The contractor needed roughly 4,000 auger-cast piles and more than 40 large pumps to complete the "bathtub" in approximately 13 months—by which time the tower structures were well over half complete.
Coastal Construction finished the job five months early and under budget, and earned state recognition for the project's safety efforts.
