The 84,500-sq-ft Carnegie Vanguard High School in Houston was completed in August 2012. Turner Construction's team headed the construction and finished work with no recordable incidents or lost-time accidents during 258,000 man-hours worked.
To achieve this safety feat, Turner required that all subcontractors follow a bevy of safety programs, such as "nothing hits the ground," requiring continuous cleanup throughout the day, and a "ladders last policy," where ladders were used only where no other means were possible. Just-in-time deliveries limited materials on site and the team elevated their work to limit strains.
