On Aug. 22, the Herrenknect tunnel-boring machine completed its work, excavating the 3.3- kilometer-long underwater section of the Eurasia Tunnel in Istanbul.
The 5.4-km-long tunnel reaches a maximum depth of 61 meters below the seabed of the Bosporus strait. The 13.7-m-dia double-decker tunnel is expected to be completed in late 2016. The joint-venture contractor for the tunnel includes Yapi Merkezi from Turkey and SK E&C from South Korea.
