Utilities that allow users to view and control web-connected computers from a range of mobile devices—for example, smart phones and tablets—are some of the most popular applications. Woburn, Mass.-based LogMeIn, which makes the free screen-sharing service join.me, is among the more successful app makers in this category.
LogMeIn has released a new version of join.me for iPhones and iPads. The company says the free app now features a Voice-over IP (VoIP) option that lets users converse during their screen-sharing sessions. A zoom feature for closer screen inspection is also available.
On join.me’s Facebook page, its engineering fans say they have used the app to review building plans, 3D CAD models and, according to one user, to “nail down camera shots with clients for interiors and product renderers.”
Users direct colleagues to https://join.me to start a meeting or web conference. The host starts a meeting by clicking a large “share” button to generate a nine-digit access number for VoIP.
Android Market reviewers give the app—released for the android earlier this year—four out of five stars, while the average App Store rating is 4.5 out of five. The few users who complained said they couldn’t figure out how to use the app, even though LogMeIn calls it “ridiculously simple.”
