Grunley Construction Co. of Rockville, Md., was also hired by the U.S. General Services Administration to modernize the Lafayette Building in Washington D.C.
Grunley will refurbish the 565,000-sq-ft office building’s exterior fa�ade and windows, replace or upgrade interior finishes, preserve historic features and upgrade all of the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and security systems.
The project will be constructed in two phases over nearly six years. The currently awarded amount for the first phase is $55.6 million. A portion of the project’s funding was provided through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009.
The project is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
