O.C. Jones & Sons Inc.'s non-profit organization TLC for Kids Sports will dedicate its second little league field renovation project April 2 in Antioch, with Brian Hooker from the office of Congressman John Garamendi, former 49ers star Brent Jones and Olympic silver medalist Vicky Galindo in attendance.
The Antioch Little League fields are located at 10th and O Streets and host boys little league games and girls softball as well as the Challenger Division games for physically and mentally disabled children ages 5-22 years old.
O.C. Jones & Sons, a Berkeley-based construction firm, created and sponsors TLC for Kids Sports, a non-profit community outreach effort aimed at improving kids' sports fields. Through an ongoing partnership with KNBR 680/1050 AM Radio, a contest was created for local youth sports fields to be selected and fully renovated in hopes to create a positive long lasting impact on local youth.
Work is almost complete in transforming the rundown fields into a place of great pride where the Challenger program can flourish, says O.C. Jones in a press release. Throughout the renovation, O.C. Jones & Sons says it gave priority attention to access, safety and community space. Paved areas for community gatherings with picnic tables have also been installed as well as new and improved handicapped accessible areas for Challenger children. Facelifts to the dugouts, fences, bleachers and backstops were also made.
In early March, O.C. Jones & Sons hosted a Volunteer Day where residents of the community came down and lent a helping hand. Over 75 individuals showed up to help with the finishing touches by performing minor landscaping, painting and fixing up onsite equipment.
Along the way, local corporations, businesses and the community were encouraged to sponsor the project by donating funds, services, and other resources from groundbreaking to the Opening Ceremony. Those sponsors included Valero, Pankow, Amici's Pizza, Antioch Building Materials, Trex Co., Dunn-Edwards Paints, Peterson Tractor, Jenkins Insurance Group, Quick Crete Products Corp., Aldino's Pizza and Bear Claw Bakery.
Last year, the construction firm renovated the playing fields for Eastridge Little League in San Jose.
