A 45,000-sq-ft three-story office building built by Morgan/Harbour Construction for American Technical Publishers, Inc. (ATP), in Orland Park, Ill., has earned LEED Gold Certification. The new ATP headquarters building was designed and constructed using the design-build delivery system.

Morgan/Harbour worked with LEED accredited professional Helen Kessler in constructing the building. Archideas provided the architectural services.

The building’s “green” features include sunshades on exterior windows that act as barriers to spring and summer heat, reducing the amount of energy needed for cooling the offices. In fall and winter, as the sun drops lower, the windows reflect extra natural light into the building, reducing the amount of energy needed.

Raised flooring houses the electrical, plumbing and HVAC equipment. Running the equipment below the floor rather than in the ceiling makes the office more versatile and minimizes the amount of ductwork, reducing energy costs.
