IESI Corp. recently opened a new eco-friendly headquarters in St. Louis, Mo. Housing almost 80 employees, the 17,200-sq-ft building features office space, fleet service and wash bays, and a mezzanine area that will be used for future growth.
The facility is the first waste hauling facility in Missouri to be built to achieve LEED certification. Showing green innovation, the service bay’s heating system will run on recycled oil from the company’s fleet, cutting down on disposed oil and averting the use of scarce natural resources.
The facility also incorporates environmentally friendly features such as water efficient landscaping and plumbing systems; significant window use to facilitate as much natural lighting as possible; elements encouraging the use of alternative transportation, such as bicycles or hybrid vehicles; and methods to reduce the heat island effect, including construction of a white roof.
GS&S General Contractors Inc. of Bridgeton, Mo., served as the project contractor and Treanor Architects of Lawrence, Kan., served as architect.
IESI is a waste disposal and recycling services provider with operations in St Louis, as well as DeSoto and Cape Girardeau areas.
