The 28-acre Lakeshore East community in Chicago rising on the New Eastside has been honored with its third major master plan award.
The community, being developed by Magellan Development Group, was selected as the winner of the 2010 Daniel Burnham Award by AIA Illinois.
The honor awards by AIA Illinois were created to “recognize the people and projects representing the best of the architecture profession, the power of design and the dedication of individuals to service and excellence.
“All award winners exemplify positive impacts on regions great and small and help create move livable communities in Illinois,” says the organization.
The Daniel Burnham Award recognizes the achievements of a project, such as Lakeshore East, that through master planning, design or implementation of a master plan by an AIA member firm enhances the natural and built environment of a community.
The master plan, created by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, has won a National Honor Award for excellence in urban design from the American Institute of Architects and more recently the Prix d’Excellence International Design Award from the International Real Estate Federation.
The Federation, officially constituted as FIABCI, represents 106 national real estate trade associations with a membership of more than two million real estate professionals from 60 countries, including Russia and China.
Rising just steps from Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park, Lake Michigan and the Chicago River, Lakeshore East is one of the largest parcels of downtown land currently under development in a major U.S. city.
This $4 billion mixed-use development incorporates all the elements of a traditional city neighborhood, a lifestyle center that includes homes, retail, recreational opportunities and a lush, award-winning 6-acre public park.
