Cost: $99.5 million
This $99.5-million, three-story addition will expand Purdue Universitys Mackey Arena basketball facility into a resource for all of the universitys 500 students that compete in intercollegiate sports.
Purdue is financing the project without using taxpayer money. Funding is coming from Big Ten television contracts and private donations.
The addition will put athletic, academic and training facilities under one roof. It will house a sports-medicine facility, strength and weight training areas, an oversized basketball practice facility, new locker rooms, offices, meeting rooms and support facilities.
The project, which adds 184,000 sq ft and renovates 118,000 sq ft of the existing Mackey Arena, will also double the width of the concourse, quadruple the number of concessions stands and add restrooms and some premium seating.
HNTB of Kansas City, Mo., is the architect. Turner Construction Co. of Indianapolis is construction manager.
Nearby, Purdue is also starting construction of a new $98-million renovation and expansion of the Recreational Sports Center that serves all of the universitys students and staff.
Renovation of the 53-year-old facility started in May, with completion scheduled for August 2012.
