Construction on the new 410,000-sq-ft, state-of-the-art Mount Sinai Center for Science and Medicine located on Madison Avenue in New York City which aims to expand its research and treatment programs while providing hundreds of job opportunities to local residents is currently underway.
The new building is designed to facilitate interactions through the integration of four types of space including interactive space such as education spaces, lounges and computer facilities, basic science research space, the Mount Sinai Brain Institute and Spinal Cord Injury Research Center, the Center for Translational and Molecular Imaging and the Cancer Center which will be linked by a multi-story lobby and consist of specialty outpatient care and clinical research space.
E-J Electric Installation Co. in managing the electrical construction of the facility and worked closely with the design and construction teams as well as the building owner during the pre-construction phase to provide electrical value engineering and cost control for the final design of the center. Other key members of the project team include Bovis Lend Lease of New York, Chicago-based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP and Jaros Baum & Bolles of New York.
E-J is leading the electrical equipment, fire alarm system, security system and audio visual system installations of the new building. Electric equipment installation will consist of four 15KV primary distribution 2500KVA transformers feeding a 5000A network ring bus and a power system with six main distribution switchboards and two 2000A bus duct risers for research lab floors and a vivarium floor. An emergency power system is also being integrated for life safety and critical care as well as state-of-the-art lighting controls and a complete interior fit-out with a lecture hall and two seminar rooms.
The new Center for Science and Medicine is expected to be completed in 2013.
