The Colorado Chapter of Society for Marketing Professional Services presented its 2014 Marketing Excellence Awards on February 13. The annual competition is the longest-standing awards program recognizing excellence in marketing and communications by professional services firms in Colorado’s design and building industry.

The following members were recipients of individual awards:

• Leonardo Award: Amy Hopkins, Espy Marketing


The Leonardo Award is given by SMPS Colorado to honor achievement at the highest level the A/E/C industry marketing and business development. This year’s winner, Hopkins, is a veteran executive-level strategic marketer with 25 years of experience in the technical services field. She specializes in strategic marketing and planning; business development strategy, implementation and coaching; client relationship management; and major pursuit management. She is also a Certified Professional Services Marketer.

• President’s Award: Mandy Redfield, The Weidt Group


This inaugural award acknowledges Redfield’s commitment to the mission of the SMPS Colorado Chapter. She is the current chapter treasurer and has dedicated many hours to the executive committee and the chapter. Redfield is an energy analyst for The Weidt Group. She performs energy modeling, measurement and verification services for the firm.

• Member of the Year: Jane Pahl, Pahl Architecture pc


Pahl is integral to the SMPS Colorado organization. As a member of the Communications Committee, she helps create and coordinate monthly e-blast marketing materials and website updates. Her role at Pahl Architecture is just as important. She is the marketing coordinator in charge of the submittals of qualifications and proposals, maintains the website and creates brochures, collateral pieces and other marketing needs for the firm.

• Marketer of the Year: 
Michele Decker, 4240 Architecture


Decker is an associate at 4240 Architecture, where she takes on diverse tasks on a daily basis. She combines a technical and artistic education with the experience and skills to market and sell design services for the built environment. Decker works to enlarge 4240’s cultural footprint through community engagement, media outreach and strategic guidance. Her reach outside of 4240 includes involvement in SMPS Colorado’s Education Committee, the Urban Land Institute, the AIA Denver Design Awards and Housing committees, Denver Architectural Foundation’s CAL program, YMCA’s Bruce Randolph Y-Achievers and virtual community engagement through Michele Decker @echoarch.

• Business Developer of the Year: Maggie Bolden, Palace Construction


Bolden is the director of client relations for Palace Construction. With more than 25 years in sales and customer service, she has a wide range of experience in sales, business operations, networking and teaching. She is responsible for implementing and contributing to the overall marketing and business development strategy for two divisions—commercial new construction and insurance/structural restoration. In addition to business development, she oversees proposal submittals, photography, trade show activities, marketing collateral, marketing strategy implementation, marketing research, public relations and all other marketing initiatives.
