Criteria for Projects: The annual Best of Awards is a competition to determine the best regional projects completed by firms in Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Firms involved in some aspect of a project submit the entries, which are free.
Judging was done by a panel of industry experts, based on design quality and innovation, craftsmanship, the project's contribution to the community and the industry, solution of unique design and construction challenges and overall excellence. The size of the project was not a factor in the judging.

Cory Moore
Big-D Construction Corp.
Cory Moore has been with Big-D Construction for 11 years was elected vice president of the firm in 2004. He is responsible for Big-D’s nationwide revenue generation as well as day-to-day operations of the company’s preconstruction get-work teams. He also oversees innovative product portfolios, go-to-market strategies, media relations, public affairs and advertising.
MURRAY
Nathan Murray
Architectural Nexus
Nathan Murray is a lead designer for Salt Lake City-based Architectural Nexus. His recent projects include the Huntsman Cancer Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center, the Daybreak City Center and Bettis Atomic Power Lab. His sensitivity to the human side of design has garnered the respect of clients as well as national awards and publications. While he contends that the design medium of choice is whatever best suits the project, he upholds the art of hand drawing as a pivotal design tool.
NEGUS
Peter K. Negus
Peter Negus is the deputy construction engineer for the Utah Dept. of Transportation. He began his career with the transportation department as a field engineer in June 1986. During his tenure with UDOT, he has also served as a resident engineer. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Utah and is a registered professional engineer.
PENNOCK
Dan Pennock
Dan Pennock is a project director for Okland Construction and a LEED-accredited professional. He is a lifelong Salt Lake City resident and has been in the commercial construction industry since 1981. His projects include: Brigham Apartments, Cabela’s Retail Center, IKEA, Dixie State College Taylor Health Sciences Building, Myriad Genetics Phase III and the Stampin Up! Corporate Campus/Distribution Center in Riverton, Utah. He is currently working on the Ogden Weber Applied Technology College – Barker Family Health Building and the David Eccles School of Business Building at the University of Utah.
PRUDDEN
Joe Prudden
Joe Prudden is an associate architect with FFKR Architects. A native of Melbourne, Australia, Joe has lived in Utah for more than 30 years. Since graduating from the University of Utah in 1997 with a master’s degree in architecture, he has focused his practice on the development and design of green architecture. He received his license in architecture in 2002 and has been with FFKR since 2007. He is currently the project manager on Block 75, the eastern block of the Downtown Rising, City Creek project in Salt Lake City and engaged in school renovation projects.
TUCK
Lisa Tuck
Lisa Tuck is a vice president and southwest transportation marketing manager for HDR. She has worked in a business development capacity in the engineering industry since 1992 for federal, state and municipal clients as well as utilities. In 2002, Lisa joined HDR and is responsible for developing and implementing client and business strategies for Utah, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.
