The Miami Art Museum broke ground in December for its new Herzog and de Meuron-designed facility in Downtown Miami’s Museum Park, next to the future home of the Miami Science Museum. The new museum is scheduled to open in 2013.

The new facility will include 200,000 sq ft of programmable space, including 120,000 sq ft of interior space and 80,000 sq ft of exterior space. The building will house an educational complex with a library, auditorium, classrooms and workshop space. Construction costs are budgeted at $131 million.
