A joint venture of Arup Group, London, and Jacobs U.K. Ltd., Edinburgh, has recently secured a contract valued at $200 million to develop plans for Scotland’s second road bridge over the Firth of Forth waterway. The team will manage planning, undertake design and advise owner Transport Scotland on procurement. Construction is planned for 2011. Estimated to cost up to $8.4 billion, the bridge will incorporate two 650-meter cable-stayed spans and eventually replace the existing crossing, which has a suspended main span of more than one kilometer.
