Crews from Coastal Drilling East, Morgantown, W. Va., fill a sinkhole discovered on Interstate 70 in Frederick County, Md., on April 24. A Maryland state trooper noticed a depression in the road at 6:45 a.m., and crews working on a nearby interchange project led by Frederick-based Dewey Jordan Inc. were mobilized within 15 minutes. Drilling tests revealed a 15-ft x 20-ft hole that was 35 ft deep. Crews excavated the hole and refilled it with three dump-truck loads of stone. Paving work began at 9:30 p.m. and lanes were reopened by 1 a.m. on April 25.
