he House has approved a revised, two-part supplemental spending bill that provides $165.4 billion for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and about $11 billion for defense and nondefense construction programs. The measures were passed on June 19 and have White House support. The next step is Senate action.
The House bill’s construction components include $5.8 billion for upgrades to Louisiana flood-control structures and $4 billion for military construction, of which $1.3 billion is for the Base Realignment and Closure Program. There also is $396 million for Dept. of Veterans Affairs polytrauma centers.
The bill allocates $2.65 billion to help Midwest areas hit by recent floods. That includes $606 million for the Army Corps of Engineers.
