Winter in Green Bay is no time to schedule major construction. However, that time of year is the Packers off-season, when the stadium is available for facility work, so weather was not an excuse for delays. In winter 2014, brutal windchills fell to minus 45°F, requiring extensive frost protection and 24/7 operation of equipment excavating 50,000 cu yd below the atrium for a new pro shop. The project had a compressed five-month schedule, so underground piping and foundation activities were completed together. Because of the tight time line, the project team had to build with a “no punchlist” approach to quality; there was absolutely no room for error, team members say.
