Shell Appalachia is continuing plans to construct a new ethane cracker facility in Monaca. Ancillary sitework has begun, but Shell is still evaluating whether to proceed on the overall $2-billion petrochemicals complex. The project includes a 250-MW power plant and facilities to convert locally sourced ethane into up to 1.5 million tons of ethylene and as much as 1.6 million tons of polyethylene per year. The Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation requests bids from qualified contractors by May 19 for the state Route 70 reconstruction, Section W31, project, in South Strabane Township. The 39-month project will replace and widen state Route 70 to three lanes from two in each direction; the job also includes wider medians and longer ramp acceleration and deceleration lanes. The U.S. General Services Administration seeks proposals from prequalified private-sector partners by June 22 to develop the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s consolidation project.
