India’s construction-equipment sales grew 37% year-over-year in the first six months of 2016 and are expected to grow a further 20% this year, according to U.K.-based market analyst Off-Highway Research. The firm expects sales of construction equipment in India to hit 58,465 machines this year. Sales have been rising steadily since 2014, and analysts expect the trend to continue, with possible record levels of equipment sales seen by 2020. The current equipment mix in India favors backhoe loaders, which make up an estimated 42% of equipment sales, but there has also been significant growth in the crawler-excavator category. The firm attributes the steady growth in Indian equipment sales to the government’s ongoing investment in improving the country’s infrastructure.
