Roofing Contractor Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing
In May 2015, Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing completed a 95,000-sq-ft reroof on the main terminal of Dallas Love Field. The airport remained fully functional throughout construction, with the accessibility to different roof areas changing often, sometimes daily. This required Chamberlin to work closely with the general contractor to execute the project efficiently and safely.
Chamberlin’s team removed the current built-up roof and installed a torch-applied Soprema two-ply modified bitumen roofing system. The same system was installed on the expansion of the main terminal, the new concourses, baggage claim and ticketing wing. In total, the team installed 450,000 sq ft of Soprema roofing.
Chamberlin also installed 45,000 sq ft of GAF PVC roof on the main canopy at the airport entrance and placed a 40,000-sq-ft Firestone TPO roof system on a roadway canopy. Chamberlin’s scope included installation of 12,000 pieces of Hickman aluminum coping on all the roofs combined.
A 10-man crew worked for four years to complete the project on time with no safety incidents.
Timing was critical when reroofing some areas, such as the TSA’s office, as the crew only had 24 to 48 hours to tear off the roof and replace it. Accessibility issues had the Chamberlin crews moving quickly from place to place, sometimes able to complete only half of an area before having to move their materials to the next roof area. The team met this challenge with open lines of communication, a clearly laid out installation plan and accelerated production, which sometimes included working overnight.
