The construction of Gate Apron B38 on Concourse C at Denver International Airport is the first project in Flatiron Constructors’ multiyear construction manager-general contractor (CM-GC) contract with DIA. Flatiron partnered with several entities while overcoming multiple challenges, including harsh weather, unforeseen obstructions, an incomplete design and aggressive material specifications and tolerances.
The project included apron replacement and repair, drainage improvements for gate pavement areas and utilities upgrades. Materials hauling into the work zone included strict operational guidelines and security requirements on an active airfield at the fifth-busiest airport in the country. Additionally, all work took place within a small enclosure adjacent to a busy airline gate. Crews followed strict dust-control procedures, and the airport put foreign object and debris control measures into place to ensure that adjacent gates and vehicle service roads were kept clean.
