Vallivue School District emphasizes music and theater arts, and the new Ridgevue High School auditorium has the latest in sound and lighting equipment. To help build school spirit, images of the school’s mascot and its colors are woven throughout the campus. As the district’s second high school, Ridgevue represents a customized reuse of a prototype design. The campus consists of a 250,000-sq-ft main building, an 18,000-sq-ft, an agricultural-professional-technical education building and facilities for football, softball, baseball, tennis and soccer, with accompanying restrooms and concession buildings. In a time when school security is paramount, the main building is separated into zones that enable administrators to lock down portions of it while allowing controlled access to other areas.
Skylights and clerestory windows bring in natural light, and polished concrete floors are attractive, durable and easy to maintain. The main building exceeds code requirements for energy use, with high-efficiency HVAC, lighting and electrical systems and a highly insulated building shell. The school was completed within budget and on time for the 2016-17 academic year.
