New Hampshire The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is currently evaluating bids from firms seeking to carry out a Portsmouth Harbor dredging project. This project consists of the maintenance dredging of 2,200 cu yd of ordinary (sand) material at the uppermost end of the Portsmouth Harbor Federal Navigation channel and the improvement dredging of approximately 683,000 cu yd of ordinary (glacial till/outwash/clay) material and 14,700 cu yd of hard (rock) material to expand the existing turning basin. The dredging will be accomplished by using a mechanical dredge and scows. The removal of the hard material will require submarine drilling and confined blasting. The dredged material will be placed at the Isle of Shoals North Disposal Site, 12 nautical miles east of Portsmouth. The project is valued at between $20 million and $30 million.
