Colorado The city of Aspen plans to build the Woody Creek Reservoir. It hired engineering firm Deere & Ault Consultants to study various water storage options. The biggest reservoir option would consist of a 5,000-ft-long dam, which would create an 8,000-acre-foot reservoir. That option would cost an estimated $81 million. Georgia Central Atlanta Progress, a private nonprofit community development organization, is planning to develop The Stitch, a large mixed-use project in downtown Atlanta. The concept involves constructing a ¾-mile-long platform over the Interstate 75/85 Downtown Connector highway, extending from the Civic Center MARTA station at West Peachtree Street to Piedmont Avenue. One element of the project is Square, an urban plaza set atop a regional bus terminal. Another component is Peachtree Green, a three-acre town green with water features, a restaurant and café and a pavilion space for markets and art shows. The third element is an urban park made up of lawns, a dog park, a playground, water features, a splash pad, a flex-use pavilion and a garden walk. The project is valued at $300 million. Vermont New England Waste Services of Vermont, a subsidiary of Casella Waste Systems, is planning to build a set of five greenhouses at the Coventry landfill. The greenhouses would be built in connection with a 51-acre expansion of the landfill, which will entail constructing lined landfill cells and a stormwater retention pond. The greenhouses will be powered by geothermal heat from the landfill’s decomposing waste. The project engineer is Sanborn Head & Associates, and the project is valued at $36.7 million. Wisconsin The city of Waukesha is planning to construct a wastewater effluent return flow pipeline. The 12.5- mile-long, 30-in.-dia pipeline and pumping stations will bring fully treated wastewater effluent from Lake Michigan west over the subcontinental divide along public road rights-of-way to the Root River. According to Waukesha officials, the extra flow of water down the Root River will improve fishing and tourism for Racine during drier months. The project has been designed by CH2M Hill Inc., and Black & Veatch has been chosen as the construction manager. The project is valued between $85 million and $90 million. California The design-build team of Walsh Construction Co. II and Stantec have begun building the Consolidated Headquarters Complex on a 31-acre site adjacent to Mather Airport in Rancho Cordova. The complex will house the California Army National Guard, the California Air National Guard, the California State Military Reserve and the California Youth and Community Programs. The complex will include a headquarters office building, armory, warehouse, emergency operations center, badging center and access control point and associated support buildings for flammable storage, utilities and emergency generators.
