Construction Starts Expected to Rise 6%, Rebounding Modestly From Last Year’s Decline

Gains in residential and non-building activity will more than offset weakness in the non-residential sector.

“I’d say over the last two to three years we’ve seen significant interest in the I-94 corridor between Milwaukee and Chicago,” Heberlein says. “You saw that a couple years ago with Amazon building there. That’s obviously what’s being talked about with Foxconn [now building a manufacturing plant there.] Even before the Foxconn announcement, that corridor has really seen a lot of uptick in being a manufacturing warehouse distribution space. How [the Foxconn] construction plays out has the potential to put a strain on a pretty busy market.”
