Bentley Systems Inc. has acquired Plaxis, a Dutch provider of geotechnical software for 3D analysis and design around soil-structure interactions. The company also announced an agreement to acquire the Canadian soil engineering software provider SoilVision, which is used to perform engineering related to soil properties, behavior and groundwater flow. The tools complement Bentley’s borehole reporting and data management software, gINT. Plaxis software is based on research from the University of Delft dating back to the 1970s. It was spun off as a start-up in 1993 and says its software now is used in nearly every country for subsurface design, particularly in the oil, gas and offshore industries, and by governmental organizations.
