Georgia Hunt Cos. and Oakwood Development are planning to develop Herndon Square, a mixed-use, mixed-income development on a 12.3-acre site at 485 John St. NW in Atlanta. The development will include 700 multifamily units of varying housing types, as well as retail and community spaces and a new fitness center. Louisiana Hunt Forest Products Inc. is planning to construct a lumber mill in Urania. Operating under the name LaSalle Lumber Co., the mill is a joint venture between Hunt Forest Products and Tolko Industries Ltd., a Canadian firm. The mill is expected to produce 200 million board feet of lumber per year. It will be constructed on 125 acres of the former 285-acre Louisiana Pacific sawmill site. The new mill will supply residuals and wood fiber to Drax Biomass, located on the adjacent property, for use in manufacturing wood pellets. The project is valued at $115 million. Missouri MCM Co. is planning to convert five existing warehouse buildings near West Ninth Street and Liberty Street in Kansas City into the West Bottom Flats apartment complex. Formerly housing the Abernathy Furniture manufacturing complex, the brick-and-timber buildings date to 1889. Maine Maine Veterans’ Homes is planning to build a nursing home for veterans on a 44-acre site at 35 Henrys Way in Augusta. The 215,000-sq-ft, multibuilding complex will replace the nonprofit group’s existing facility with a “small house” model. It will include 138 beds in buildings containing 10 to 12 units and private bathrooms. It is being designed by Plunkett Raysich Architects. The project is valued at $76.8 million. California C. Overaa & Co. has started making improvements to the 44-million-gallon-per-day Del Valle Water Treatment Plant in Livermore. The upgrades include a new ozone generation facility, new ozone contractor structure, new chemical facilities including liquid oxygen and carbon dioxide, new electrical facilities, a new water-softening facility, and a new utility water-pump station. Colorado Weld County has awarded Roche Constructors Inc. a design-build contract for the county’s Jail 2 West Expansion project. Roche is working with design partner Hauser Architects. Weld County’s North Jail Complex in Greeley is currently 217,568 sq ft and houses 779 beds. The Jail 2 West Expansion will create a three-story, 129,537-sq-ft addition and renovate 19,000 sq ft of the existing building.
