Gabrielle Bullock, principal and director of global diversity at architect Perkins+Will, was elected president of the 15,000-member International Interior Design Association, the first black woman in the role.
Formerly managing director of the firm in Los Angeles from 2005 to 2013, she also was the second black woman to earn an architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.
“I’m one of 424 black female licensed architects in the U.S., 0.2% of the profession,” she said. “The design profession should mirror the community and clients. We change what we design by who designs it.”
