Iowa 100-500 LLC is planning to develop the Pentacrest Gardens Apartment Buildings in Iowa City. The project entails constructing four 15-story buildings on the 3.4-acre site at 12 E. Court St. There will be between 800 and 1,000 apartments, aimed at University of Iowa students, with underground parking, pools and basketball courts. Vermont The Vermont Agency of Transportation is planning to resurface State Route 15 in Lamoille County. The project entails resurfacing 9.825 miles of the highway, beginning at the VT 100C intersection in Johnson and extending easterly to the Wolcott town line. Virginia The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning to carry out a southerly expansion of Arlington National Cemetery. The project will establish a single contiguous parcel of land south of the cemetery by closing and relocating local roadways and developing the parcel to increase interment capacity and increase multimodal transportation capacity on Columbia Pike. The project will increase the cemetery’s burial capacity by 40,000 to 60,000 spaces for first graves and inurnments. The existing Air Force Memorial will be incorporated into the cemetery expansion. Roadway construction will start in 2021 and be completed in 2023. Cemetery construction will begin in 2023 and be completed in 2025. Georgia The joint venture of Mariner Group LLC and Regent Partners broke ground on the first phase of Eastern Wharf, a 54-acre mixed-use development in Savannah. The first phase includes a 306-unit multifamily apartment building, 40,000-sq-ft of retail space devoted primarily to food and beverage and a 196-room hotel, 80,000 sq ft of office space, a linear park and a two-acre riverfront park, along with a 1,100-space parking garage, including a 700-space city-owned garage. Phase one is valued at $225 million and expected to be completed in the fall of 2020. Later phases are ultimately expected to bring the project’s cost to $600 million. Montana The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $34.8 million firm-fixed-price contract to Ames Construction Inc. to construct a replacement irrigation diversion weir across the Lower Yellowstone River and a fish bypass channel through Joe’s Island, in Glendive. The weir consists of a steel W-pile section foundation with reinforced concrete crest structure capping it, and it will be upstream of an existing wooden weir constructed in 1911-1912, with riprap placed between the weirs. Ninety-four W-pile sections will be driven to a depth of 37 ft. The weir length is 700 ft. The bypass channel will be 2.2 miles long, with a 75-ft bottom width, a 200-ft top width and an 18-ft depth. The channel side slopes will be protected with a layer of riprap on bends, the invert and side slopes protected with cobbles processed from the excavation, and the entrance and exit and two locations within the channel protected with riprap structures. The channel excavation requires an intense dewatering system to be designed by the contractor, and earthen cofferdams at the channel entrance and exit.
