Nicollet Mall, a 12-block stretch of entertainment, transportation, office and pedestrian activity in downtown Minneapolis received a $50-million update in 2017. Architect James Corner Field Operations designed a pedestrian-friendly environment that actively engages each block on the mall.

The project’s design focused on local product specification, historic preservation and future reuse possibilities. The outdoor mall received new sidewalks, nearly 250 trees, LED lighting, 12 bus shelters and the city’s largest public art display outside of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Minneapolis added new street signage, point-of-interest signs and totem maps.
