Total construction spending expected to decline by less than 1% this year

Growth in institutional and nonbuilding work will be offset by a weak commercial and manufacturing sector.

Growth in America’s fifth-largest city continues at a brisk pace. Mackay says the bioscience and health care sectors continue to surge. “Across the city of Phoenix, nine bioscience and health care organizations have announced 17 projects for construction in the next 24 months, totaling $3.5 billion in value for 4.4 million square feet and more than 7,000 professional jobs,” Mackay says. She adds that downtown Phoenix is home to more than 300 technology companies in 2019 compared with 67 in 2012.
