New Construction Ferry Terminal
Richmond, Calif.
Award of Merit
Owner: San Francisco Water Emergency Transportation Authority
Lead Designer | Structural Engineer: COWI Marine North America
Civil Engineer: BKF Engineers
MEP Engineer: HRA Consulting Engineers
Contractor: Manson Construction Co.
Offering Bay Area commuters a transit alternative to busy freeways and limited mass transit, the New Construction Ferry Terminal expansion includes a new fixed pier and passenger waiting area, ADA-compliant gangway and ramping system, passenger loading float and a new kayak launch facility.
Subcontractors were challenged with the task of sourcing materials compliant with Federal Buy America requirements on the project. For example, to find Buy America-compliant glass for the ferry terminal, the contractor worked closely with the glass subcontractor and visited the glass manufacturing facility to ensure that all contract restrictions and requirements were met. Safety was paramount on the project. Over the course of the 13-month job, the contractor reported zero incidents and zero injuries.
