Lubbock Pump Station No. 10
Lubbock, Texas
Award of Merit
Owner: City of Lubbock
Lead Design Firm: Freese & Nichols Inc.
General Contractor: Archer Western Construction LLC
Pump Station No. 10 was built in the early 1970s and was reaching the end of its service life when Lubbock contracted Archer Western to rehab the facility. Work included the demolition of an existing pump station, the repair of a 7-million-gallon ground storage tank and the installation of a temporary groundwater dewatering system as well as piping, excavation and earthwork.
The pump station foundation was value engineered and constructed with drilled concrete piers in lieu of concrete driven piles, reducing both cost and disturbances during installation. The team was able to reduce the project’s scope while maintaining plant functionality, ensuring the project was completed on time and within budget.
