The Fort Lupton Terminal Reservoir project constructed a new off-channel reservoir facility. The work was part of a collaborative infrastructure system built by the city of Fort Lupton and Tri State Generation and Transmission, which share use of the 252-acre-ft storage reservoir.
SEMA Construction coordinated earthwork around outlet structures and pipeline construction while building contiguous embankment fill that was free of potential seepage and stability issues. Construction started in January, and the embankment was finished by early summer to allow for installation of a geomembrane liner and vent system. SEMA also managed concurrent trucking operations, scraper fill-placement and prewetting of embankment fill material during a wet winter. When weather conditions became adverse, SEMA utilized dry-lifting methods to protect previously constructed embankments, thus reducing costly rework and keeping the project on schedule.
