Building this tech-abundant, 250,000-sq-ft open office headquarters required managing an interior fit-out in an elliptical base building while maintaining a tightly collaborative team environment.
Strongly influenced by the “unique, elliptical-shaped glass tower of 121 Seaport,” the project was completed on budget and on a 15-month accelerated design and construction schedule, the team says. It has an open-floor plan with 100% unassigned seating for activity-based work for PTC’s 1,000 employees, a departure from the company’s prior office and work style.
The team faced multiple challenges since the building itself was still under construction during the team’s interior fit-out work, resulting in the modification of some design and construction aspects of the new base building.
To achieve the accelerated schedule, trade partners agreed to supply two or three crews, and the team developed a clear procurement strategy during preconstruction.
To foster collaboration, the team built an office with a conference room on the ninth floor for holding onsite client project meetings. Locating this office on the project floor accommodated optimal communication between the contractor and its 20 trade partners in addition to increasing collaboration with the overall project team.
