Ohio The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is planning Phase 2 of its renovation. Phase 2 entails renovating Murch Auditorium, including improved acoustics, lighting and audio/visual equipment with broadcast capacity, and increasing to 495 from 445 seats; renovating the current science area; rebuilding the courtyard to include a paved area with a relief map of the Cuyahoga River watershed and a one-story-high waterfall; enclosing a 50,000-sq-ft new exhibit wing to occupy former side of the museum’s Perkins Wildlife Center; and adding a new main lobby, café and store that will wrap and enclose the museums existing brick facade. Wisconsin The Milwaukee County Dept. of Public Works plans to restore the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory Domes and transform the park into an urban botanical area with a restaurant, wedding venue, amphitheater and tennis courts. The three beehive-shaped glass domes are the world’s first conoidal domes, 140 ft dia and 85 ft high, erected between 1959 and 1967, and have been found to still be structurally sound. Maryland The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is currently evaluating submitted bids from design-build firms seeking to design, construct, test and commission a heavy repair and overhaul facility for Metrorail vehicles and a car track equipment maintenance facility supporting non-revenue rail vehicles. The New Carrollton West Yard facilities HRO will include operational, administrative and ancillary spaces, as well as service bays to accommodate about 40 rail cars. A rail car truck shop, rail car storage tracks to accommodate up to 24 rail cars, a traction power substation, a diesel rail vehicle fueling facility, a yard operations control tower, loading docks for heavy trucks, and employee parking garage are also included. A new rail connection from the site to the outbound Metrorail Orange Line between the Landover and New Carrollton Metrorail Stations will be required.
