Several major transportation infrastructure programs that will help improve mobility across Houston are in the early stages of planning, design and construction, Voinis says. These include the $7-billion North Houston Highway Improvements project along IH-45 and Houston METRO’s $7.5-billion MetroNext program. The goal of both is to help reduce congestion and improve safety while providing residents and visitors with multiple options to travel to their destinations, he notes.
“Despite economic concerns, there is an opportunity to make investments in our infrastructure that can provide long-lasting positive impacts and provide the local community with high-quality construction jobs for years to come,” Voinis says. “With continued hope and momentum around a large-scale infrastructure funding bill from the federal government, Houston stands in a strong position to capture our share of this potential funding. This would give our local government agencies the ability to invest in our infrastructure, improve our quality of life and provide meaningful employment to our residents.”
